THE UPP

Since December 19, 2008, the community Santa Marta counts with the presence of Pacifying police unit (UPP). The occupation brought a new routine for residents of the community, free of drug traffickers.

The proposal brings the opportunity for residents to invest in your business, and allows the cariocas of other neighbourhoods and foreigners enjoy and learn about the life and the story of favela. From pacification, easier to take advantage of the privileged view, taste a beer at some of the events on the Hill, or see the Sun radiating from alto do Mirante Dona Marta.  

To recover the occupied territories for decades by traffickers and militiamen, the UPPs guarantee peace and security to communities through a differentiated policing, which works in partnership with the local population.
