Description

Burle Marx

The huge green area with a variety of plant species form the site Roberto Burle Marx, a former landscaper property that gives the name to the place. Your dear Herbarium and landscape, today is maintained by the Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN), an agency of the Ministry of culture of Brazil (MinC).

Open to the public for visits, through the schedule, the space is played by artists and designers seeking inspiration.

Until the 17th century, the site was called Fazenda da Bica-name originated from sources of water in the upper part of the terrain, that were channeled and exploited by the residents of the region in a handy spout.

In 1949, it was acquired by Roberto Burle Marx and his brother William Siegfried Marx to House his collection. Years after the landscaper he lived on site and during 45 years organized and preserved one of the most important collections of living plants in the world.

Information

Visits

Visits must be scheduled during business hours by phone 2410-1412, are conducted on foot, accompanied by monitor that explains what is seen, and occur in two schedules: 9:30 and 1:30 pm.

Snacks

There is no cafeteria or snacks, or picnics are permitted within the site.

Shoes

It is advisable to use comfortable shoes and it is recommended to people with allergies take insect repellent.

Length of visit

The visit lasts little more than 90 minutes, traverses approximately 1,800 metres on a path that rises 45 metres from the starting point.

Chapel

Next to the House, is located the Chapel of Santo Antonio da Bica, built in the 17th century and restored by landscape architect, with assistance of Lúcio Costa and Carlos Leão.

Content

The administration building of the site, where the management and technical teams, administrators and was designed by architect Ary Garcia Rosa. Has a specialized library with about 2,600 securities in Botany, architecture and landscaping, two classrooms, an auditorium, a herbarium and a laboratory for research.
